New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks: Current situation
It has been a challenging few seasons for New Orleans Pelicans fans, but things are finally moving in the right direction. They were able to make the postseason last year through the play-in tournament, but they lost in the first round to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Injuries have been the biggest problem this team has faced ever since Zion Williamson entered the league, a healthy Pels team is capable of making noise in the postseason. Dejounte Murray breaking his hand was a major blow, he will be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks which makes this season a work in progress basically.
Mediocrity is the word that best describes the Atlanta Hawks. Star player Trae Young was once hailed as the new Stephen Curry, but as time has gone on he has not exactly lived up to that potential. After making it into the Conference Finals in 2021, Atlanta has only made it to the 1st Round twice since then, last season they finished with a 36-46 record, only to lose in the play-in tournament to the Chicago Bulls.
New Orleans Pelicans Stats & Form
It has been an up and down start to the new season by the New Orleans Pelicans who are 3-3 after 6 games played. Just like their opponent tonight, the Pels opened the season with 2 wins over Chicago and at Portland, but after that they proceeded to lose the next 3 on the road. The good news is they stopped the bleeding with a 125-118 home win over Indiana on Friday, thanks to Zion Williamson dropping 34 points and dishing out 10 assists. Dejounte Murray’s injury has taken a toll on this team, they once again lack a point guard presence, which has been an Achilles heel of this team for quite some time now.
Atlanta Hawks Stats & Form
After opening the season with back-to-back wins over Brooklyn and Charlotte, the Atlanta Hawks have now dropped 4 games in a row. The biggest concern we’ve seen in those 4 losses has been their effort on the defensive end. All 3 of those teams dropped 120+ points and because of that Atlanta now ranks 29th in the NBA in opponent points, allowing 123.5 per game. That’s exactly in line with the 120.6 per game they were allowing last season, finishing the regular season as the 2nd worst defensive team in the league.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks: Head to Head
Being in different conferences, the Pelicans and Hawks get to play each other only 2 times ever year. The last 3 seasons saw the regular season series split between the two teams, prior to that the Hawks were on a run of 6 straight wins in head-to-head meetings. Atlanta holds a narrow 23-22 lead in the 45 regular season games played all-time.

Betting tip and prediction: New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks (03.11.2024)
Both teams have been plagued by injuries to start the new season, however two key players should return in time for Sunday’s game. The Pelicans get C.J. McCollum back, while for the Hawks De’Andre Hunter will make a return. New Orleans isn’t exactly the best offense in the NBA, but facing a Hawks team that cannot defend to save it’s life should benefit them. McCollum adds much needed perimeter offense, while Zion Williamson should be able to dominate on the interior. The Hawks won’t go down without a fight though, they did win last season’s meeting at the Smoothie King Arena after all. So far this season the over is a perfect 6-0 in Hawks games, while for the Pelicans it’s 4-2 and has cashed in both home games. With the visitors going 6-2 on the O/U in their last 8 games vs Western Conference opponents dating back to last season, we believe backing the points is the right way to go here.
