Barcelona vs. Espanyol: Current situation
Barcelona is unstoppable at the moment, leading the La Liga standings and not looking back. The Catalans are looking absolutely unstoppable at the moment, and they are having fun while destroying their opponents. The loss against Osasuna was just a bad night and a proof that they are human, and it seems like no team will stand on their way to another La Liga title. Hansi Flick’s impact on the team has been tremendous, and Barca’s fans are wondering where he has been by now.
Espanyol fulfilled their goal to return to La Liga but now when they are here, they do not play on the required level to compete in this league. Winning three of 11 games do not look that bad, but losing 7 of the remaining puts them dramatically low in the standings. It’s been 15 years since Espanyol defeated the city rival in La Liga and it will be a real football miracle if they manage to do so in this game.
Barcelona Stats & Form
Barcelona has a fantastic season sitting alone on top of La Liga with 10 wins in 11 games. They already have a significant lead in front of the competitors, and it seems like they have an open road to the title. The 4-0 road win against Real Madrid is one of the biggest wins in the club’s history and a real proof of their dominance at the moment. Robert Lewandowski plays like in his prime, and Lamine Yamal is a real football diamond. It is a fact that the season is long, but there is no realistic scenario that Barcelona will be stopped on their way to the title.
Espanyol Stats & Form
No one really had any high expectations of Espanyol, and given that, the “Periquitos” have a solid season. Winning back-to-back games against Rayo Vallecano and Alaves won them enough credit to have some comfort, but it runs out as Espanyol has lost 5 of their last 6 games. They are going into this one after back-to-back losses against Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, and they were not even close to winning a point in those two contests.
Barcelona – Espanyol: Head to Head
Barcelona has won 5 of the last 10 games against its rivals, with the remaining five ending in a tie. The last time they met was in the 2022–23 season, when Barcelona won 4-2 on the road and it was 1-1 on Camp Nou. The last time Espanyol won was in the 2018 quarterfinal of the Copa del Rey, when the score was 1-0. In the last three games between the rivals from the Catalan capital, both teams scored at least a goal.

Betting tip and prediction: Barcelona - Espanyol (03.11.2024)
There is no dilemma about who the best team in Europe is at the moment. Barcelona is alone on top of La Liga with 10 wins in 11 games and is coming off back-to-back wins against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, scoring 4 goals in both of those games. We haven’t seen such dominance by the Catalans since Leo Messi was on the team, and even though it is way too early in the season, we can clearly see that it will take a miracle for some teams to reach Barcelona on top of the La Liga standings. Hansi Flick has proven to be the right solution for the head coaching job, and it is obvious that the players enjoy following his guidance. On the other side of town, Espanyol is glad to be back in the top tier of Spanish football, and they will have a long race to keep their spot in the elite. Losing five of the last six games is not the path to success, and hoping to stop the bleeding against the city rival is just ridiculous. Espanyol will miss striker Naci Unuvar, midfielder Jose Gragera, and defender Fernando Calero in this game. Barcelona has a longer list of injured players, as defenders Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen, midfielder Marc Bernal, and striker Ferran Torres are all out, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t change the game plan for Flick. This will be another one-dimensional game for Barcelona, as they will dominate the pitch and win by at least a three-goal margin.
