The Seattle Seahawks (3-0) have their sights set on a fourth consecutive win to start the 2024-25 NFL season but will face their toughest test yet on Monday Night Football here in Week 4. Knocking off the Detroit Lions (2-1) at home in this matchup will certainly be no easy task. Kickoff is set for 8:15 PM EST on September 30th at Ford Field.
Pretty much everything has gone right for the Seahawks to start the season, as even an injury to starting RB Kenneth Walker III back in Week 1 hasn’t slowed down a Seattle offense that is currently averaging almost 25 points per game.
Detroit also has enjoyed a decent month of September thus far, winning two out of a possible three games against above average opponents. Their strong play on defense has been especially noteworthy, as the Lions have surrendered an average of just over 16 points per game to opposing offenses.
Matchup Details, Betting Market Information and Where to Watch
Oddsmakers opened this game up with the Seahawks listed as 4.5-point road underdogs. The spread narrowed by a full point after early betting, as Seattle is currently available at +3.5 on most sportsbooks. The total for this matchup is 46.5 points. Viewers hoping to watch the game should note that it will be nationally televised on ESPN. In Canada, the game will also be available on DAZN.
Seattle Seahawks Soar Past Dolphins At Home
The Seahawks laid the hammer down early against a banged-up Miami team in Week 3 and never looked back, scoring 17 points in the first quarter en route to a decisive 24-3 win. QB Geno Smith had a good game, completing 26 out of 34 total passing attempts for 289 passing yards and a touchdown through the air.
Zach Charbonnet continued to fill in admirably for Walker III on the ground, rumbling for 91 yards and two touchdowns on a game-high 18 carries. D.K. Metcalf led the way again for the Seattle receiving corps, as the veteran wideout hauled in four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Seahawks turned in a dominating performance, limiting the Dolphins to well under 200 total yards of offense and just a single field goal. Seattle completely shut down flashy WR Tyreek Hill through the air, as he only managed to record three receptions for just 40 yards.
Detroit Lions Fend Off Feisty Cardinals Late
Although it certainly wasn’t the most entertaining victory, the Lions found a way to get the job done on the road in Arizona in Week 3 with an impressive 20-13 win. QB Jared Goff was very efficient, going 18/23 for 199 passing yards while also throwing two touchdowns.
David Montgomery outperformed speedy Jahmyr Gibbs in the Detroit backfield, hammering the Cardinals defense for 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on a game-high 23 carries. Amon-Ra St.Brown also had a big game, racking up seven receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions defense did an admirable job against a tough Arizona offense, as they barely gave up more than 200 passing yards and kept everyone except for Marvin Harrison Jr. out of the end zone. Detroit’s defensive line was an unstoppable force all afternoon long, limiting James Conner to just 1.9 yards per carry.
Our Seahawks vs Lions Week 4 NFL Betting Prediction and Pick
While I wouldn’t have argued against taking the 4.5 points and rolling with the Seahawks when this game opened up for betting earlier in the week, early bettors have hammered the spread down by a full point heading into the weekend.
As things sit currently, I really don’t think there is much of an edge with either side against the spread. While Seattle has started the year hot and currently sits on top of the NFC West at 3-0, they haven’t exactly had the toughest schedule thus far and almost lost to New England back in Week 2.
Game Total Betting Market Tip: Under 46.5
Instead of flipping a coin and rolling the dice against what looks to be a pretty accurate spread, I think the Under on 46.5 total points scored offers bettors much better value. Seattle has yet to put up more than 26 points in a single game this year, and they have faced several below average defenses already.
While Detroit has an explosive offense that is more than capable of scoring from anywhere on the field, the Lions are highly committed to establishing the run and controlling the game clock instead of utilizing a more up tempo offense the vast majority of the time. Additionally, they have still yet to score more than 20 points in regulation this season.
Both defenses have also looked well above average as of late, with Seattle holding Miami to just a single field goal all game in Week 3 and Detroit holding an above average Cardinals offense to just 13 points at home last Sunday. Take the Under on 46.5 in what should be a highly entertaining Monday Night Football matchup!
