The undefeated Minnesota Vikings (3-0) travel to Wisconsin this weekend for an NFC North Divisional showdown with the Green Bay Packers (2-1). Sam Darnold is taking full advantage of his fresh start with the Vikes and finally looks like the quarterback many expected him to be after getting drafted 3rd overall by the Jets in 2018. On the other side, backup quarterback Malik Willis is aiming for his third straight victory since filling in for injured starter Jordan Love. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM EST on September 29th at Lambeau Field.
Green Bay continues to play their cards close to the vest in regards to the injury status of their star quarterback, so it remains to be seen whether or not Love can make his return to the lineup here in Week 4. One player who will be making an important return on Sunday afternoon is longtime Packer Aaron Jones, as he returns to Lambeau for the first time since signing in Minnesota over the offseason.
The Vikings have really turned a lot of heads with their 3-0 start, as they have now reeled off consecutive wins over the Giants, 49ers, and Texans. Minnesota can really cement their status as favorites to win the tough NFC North here in Week 4, as a victory over the hated Packers on the road will move them to a perfect 4-0 overall during the month of September.
Matchup Details, Betting Market Information and Where to Watch
Oddsmakers opened this game up with the Vikings listed as 3-point road underdogs. The spread has barely moved after early betting, as Minnesota is currently available at +2.5 on most sportsbooks. The total for this matchup is 43.5 points. Viewers hoping to watch the game should note that it will be televised on FOX. In Canada, the game will also be available on DAZN.
Minnesota Vikings Roll Over Houston To Stay Unbeaten
Despite starting the 2024-25 regular season with a 2-0 record, not many people expected the Vikings to beat an up and coming Houston team by 25+ points last weekend at home. QB Sam Darnold put on a clinic, throwing four touchdown passes on just 28 total passing attempts the entire game. As expected, star Justin Jefferson was Darnold’s favorite target, hauling in six catches for 81 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Aaron Jones continued his strong start to the year on the ground, rushing for 102 total rushing yards on a game-high 19 carries. Jones also did a lot of damage catching passes out of the backfield, recording five catches for 46 yards and a score through the air.
On the other side of the ball, Minnesota did a fantastic job shutting down one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. Not only did the Vikings hold C.J. Stroud to well under 250 passing yards, they also recorded two interceptions as well. Houston didn’t fare much better against the Vikes dominant run defense either, as no Texans rusher managed to gain more than 21 yards on the ground.
Green Bay Packers Win Second Straight With Willis At QB
Nobody expected much from the Packers after they lost starting quarterback Jordan Love in the fourth quarter of their Week 1 loss against Philadelphia. However, they have gone unbeaten since then with Malik Willis under center, including a dominant 30-14 performance on the road in Tennessee last weekend.
Willis had by far his best game as a professional, going 13/19 for 202 yards and a touchdown through the air while also leading the team in rushing with 73 yards and another touchdown on the ground. Backup RB Emanuel Wilson also appears to have carved a role out for himself, averaging 4.2 yards per carry out of the backfield against a tough Titans run defense.
The Packers also turned in a strong performance defending against the run in Week 3, as they completely shut down Tennessee on the ground. As a team, the Titans barely managed to scrape together 33 total rushing yards, so it will be interesting to see how Green Bay fares in a matchup against ex-Packer Aaron Jones on Sunday afternoon.
Our Vikings vs Packers Week 4 NFL Betting Prediction and Pick
While the coming out party for Malik Willis has been one of the best feel-good stories from the first full month of the 2024-25 NFL season, it’s tough to bet against an undefeated Vikings squad – especially when considering they are also 2.5-point underdogs in this matchup despite going a perfect 3-0 to start the year.
Many are speculating that Jordan Love may be able to suit up as early as this weekend, but I still am somewhat skeptical of how healthy he is after suffering what looked to be a significant injury against Philadelphia in Brazil.
Against the Spread Betting Market Tip: Vikings +2.5
Anytime you are getting over two full points against the spread with an undefeated team averaging almost 30 points per game, it’s pretty hard to not back an underdog of that caliber. Even if Love is healthy enough to return to the lineup, I feel much more confident in a Minnesota squad that has been extremely consistent on both sides of the ball for three consecutive games.
I would not be surprised in the slightest if the Vikings find a way to win this game outright, as Darnold has done a fantastic job leading this offense while the defense has surrendered an average of just ten points per game through the first full month of the season.
I’m more than happy to take the free points and take a shot with the undefeated underdog in this particular spot – look for Minnesota to cover on the road in what should be a highly entertaining divisional clash between two longtime NFC North rivals.
